Marilyn Pershin was like a princess to me. She was beautiful, smart, popular.  At our Schulze 8th grade graduation she was the only girl who did not wear a dress with a bouffant petticoat. She wore a sheath. It was white. She looked sexy and I thought she was brave and bold to wear it. At the 20th Mumford reunion I watched her dance “the chicken.” She was light on her feet and looked joyful. I remember when her Mom died of breast cancer, at the time, probably not much older than us. We did not know a huge amount about breast cancer then. Later, I knew Marilyn was sick but I never thought she could die. That’s magical thinking. I wish she could have lived longer and been well.

I too remember Marilyn Pershin as the luckiest girl alive. She was attractive, had a nice figure, extremely popular (remember hearing it was weeks until she had a Sat night available), a cheerleader, lived in a beautiful home and had assuredly the best future ahead anyone could wish for. Didn't come to the reunions until after she had passed away so never got to see her later in life. It was a tragedy to lose someone so young - anyone for that matter.

How many hours did we spend being envious of Marilyn Pershin?   She was adorable, a good student, athletic and outrageously popular.   Now, here we are, still here and she's not.  Not fair but if there's a heaven she's in it.

She was pretty and smart; and although very popular, seemed unaffected by it. I remember toilet papering the school with her, Susie Gross, Bob Gossman and Marc Kahn the night before graduation (the statute of limitations has no doubt run on this prank).  I am sure that she has been missed by many.

The thing about Marilyn Pershin is that she was kind & friendly to

me, who was not blond & beautiful, not a cheerleader, but someone

who knew her from Confirmation Class at Adat Shalom. She was

soft-spoken and poised.  Her modesty was amazing, considering

how perfectly beautiful she was. Since I've been studying about

orthodox Judaism, the first asset of a religious woman is

modesty. They call it "sneeus"...and Marilyn had this ==

an inherent ability to treat everyone equally. May she rest in peace.
