Susan Levitt was one of a kind. She was irreverent, brilliant, unconventional, self-deprecating, and a keen and humorous observer of the human condition and society. I visited her at her home in Pacifica about 10 years ago and had a memorable afternoon filled with laughter and stories of times past and times present. I have never met anyone like her and I cherish the time we had together.
The news of Susie's death brought tears to my eyes, as did the remarkable tribute to her that appeared on this site today. We lost touch after Mumford, which saddens me. Learning how her life unfolded I realize that even in high school she revealed a precocious intelligence, spirit, and curiosity to all who enjoyed the gift of her friendship. She will be missed.
